Zendesk Relate Event Details
Relate kicks off on Monday, November 12 with a full day of training sessions on Zendesk, including certification programs for Zendesk Support Administrators and Zendesk App Developers.
But it’s Tuesday, November 13 and Wednesday, November 14 where customer support and success professionals will find the meat of this CX conference, with five tracks that include how to “Provide Better Customer Experience” and “Best Practices for Growth.”
The number one can’t-miss session will undoubtedly be the closing talk with Elena Gomez, Zendesk CFO, and Mindy Kaling. Yes, THAT Mindy Kaling — actor, writer, producer, director. It’s scheduled for November 14 at 4:15 PM.
Here are some other talks we recommend:

Squelch-Sponsored Espresso Bar
Sessions begin both days at 9 AM and run until approximately 5 PM. With two full days of back-to-back talks and networking, we figured you might need a little caffeine boost. That’s why we’re sponsoring the Zendesk Relate Espresso Bar.
Stop by the Espresso Bar in the Conservatory at the Fairmont as early as 8 AM for a cup of joe before the first talks of the day and come back any time before 11 AM for a mocha-flavored refill.
Win a Trip for 2 to Hawai‘i
At Squelch, we believe customer support and success professionals are the true heroes of a company, and we thought Relate was the perfect opportunity to show our appreciation for all they do.
What better way to say thank you than a free vacation in a picture-perfect setting? That’s right — we’re giving away a 4-day, 3-night trip to Honolulu for 2 people, including roundtrip airfare and hotel accommodations.
While we’re offering the giveaway in conjunction with Zendesk Relate, the drawing is open to ALL support and success professionals, even those unable to attend the conference. Just complete this short form by 11:59 PM Pacific on Friday, November 16 to enter to win this dream vacation!
Weather Forecast and Packing List
Now that we’ve got you thinking about sunny beaches, sadly we have to burst that warm, happy bubble by discussing the weather forecast for San Francisco during Zendesk Relate.
The daytime temperature is expected to be in the mid-to-high 60s, while the low will hover around 50 degrees. It’s a great opportunity to break out your favorite mid-weight sweater and scarf, dressing in layers that can be added or removed as necessary.
No rain is predicted, but travelers should note that the Fairmont Hotel is located in Nob Hill, a particularly foggy neighborhood. So while you can leave the umbrella and wellies at home, we recommend bringing a trench coat or other waterproof jacket to handle any moisture or wind coming in off the Bay.
Also, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention that the Fairmont is not only in Nob Hill, it is at the tippy top of Nob Hill. So if you plan to venture on foot to nearby Chinatown or Union Square, you should keep in mind the walk down (and potential return walk back up) a very steep hill. Do your tootsies a favor and pack at least one pair of comfy shoes!
Finally, in case you haven’t seen the headlines, Northern California is currently experiencing a massive wildfire. While the fire itself is approximately 170 miles north of San Francisco, an air quality advisory has been issued for the entire Bay Area. Please review these tips for keeping yourself healthy and safe.
What to See and Do in San Francisco
Obviously the actual conference will occupy the bulk of your time during Zendesk Relate. But, in case you need to take a break from the event or are able to spend an additional day or two in San Francisco, we wanted to recommend some of our favorite nearby places and activities.
Nob Hill is home to some of the best bars in the city.
On the bottom floor of the very hotel at which the conference is taking place, you’ll find the Tonga Room & Hurricane Bar. Established in 1945 when the hotel pool was converted into a tiki bar, the Tonga Room is a popular food and drink destination once called “the greatest place in the history of the world” by the late great Anthony Bourdain.
Directly across the street from the Fairmont Hotel is the InterContinental Mark Hopkins and its legendary Top of the Mark. This restaurant and bar, which opened on the hotel’s 19th floor in 1939, offers spectacular 360-views of the city, along with classic cocktails, small bites, and a Sunday buffet brunch that’ll knock your socks off.
Chinatown and Union Square
As mentioned above, two neighborhoods within easy walking distance of the conference location are Chinatown and Union Square.
Considered the “largest Chinatown outside of Asia as well as the oldest Chinatown in North America,” this neighborhood is an obvious yet worthwhile destination.
See the famous Dragon Gate at the intersection of Bush Street and Grant Avenue before dining on dim sum at Great Eastern Restaurant, which once received an impromptu visit from President Barack Obama. Yes, the dumplings are just that good.
Nearby Union Square (a term that refers to both a public plaza and the surrounding neighborhood) is the city’s premier shopping district, including Apple’s architecturally-impressive flagship store.
In addition to loads of shops and restaurants, you’ll find classic tourist offerings like open-top sightseeing buses. But Union Square also has some off-the-beaten-path treasures, including the Museum of Ice Cream and a new music venue called August Hall.
We wish everyone traveling to Zendesk Relate a safe and speedy trip.
And if you have any questions before or during the conference (whether about the event itself or San Francisco dos and don’ts), just tweet us at @SquelchIO. We’d be happy to help!
